Two brothers from Headlands have been sentenced to an effective six-month jail term each after being convicted of stealing US$1 300 and 1 000 pula from their mother.
Nyasha (30) and Gamuchirai (25) Ndawana were convicted by the Rusape Magistrates’ Court.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the duo was initially sentenced to 10 months in prison, with three months suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
“A further month was suspended on condition each restitute US$250 before March 23, 2026, leaving them each with an effective six months imprisonment term,” the NPAZ said in a statement.
The court heard that between January 16 and 18, 2026, the brothers ransacked their mother’s bedroom while she was away and stole the cash.
The victim was later alerted by her brother, who reported that the two were spending money extravagantly at local shops and were found intoxicated.
Upon returning home, the mother discovered her bedroom in disarray and confirmed that an additional US$500 was missing from the original amount taken. A search of the brothers led to the recovery of US$800 and the full 1 000 pula.
“Theft is a serious offence and we will remain resolute in bringing all criminals to book,” the authority stated.
