US$150 fine for gas cylinder assault on wife

A 42-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man has been fined US$150 for repeatedly hitting his wife with a 3kg gas cylinder during a domestic dispute.

MacLean Mwase of Pumula North appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Archie Wochiwunga and pleaded guilty to a charge of physical abuse. He was ordered to pay the fine by September 30; failure to which he will serve two months in prison.

Prosecuting, Ms Audrey Kufandikanwe told the court that the incident occurred on August 30 at around 7.30 AM.
“Mwase and his wife, Constance Hweru, were at their home when a domestic dispute broke out.

The accused became violent, grabbed a 3kg gas cylinder and struck his wife several times on the back,” she said.

The complainant sustained internal injuries and was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital for treatment. A police report was made, leading to Mwase’s arrest.

 

Meanwhile, two Bulawayo men have appeared in court for allegedly stealing motor vehicle rims and tyres valued at more than US$10,500.

Nhlanhla Ndebele (26) of Tshabalala and Mandlenkosi Moyo (21) of Iminyela suburb appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube, facing theft charges. They were remanded in custody until September 24.

Prosecuting, Mr Tafara Dzimbanhete told the court that the duo first struck on August 21 when they entered a garage belonging to Ms Sithandazile Sibanda (49) in Kelvin North around 7 PM. While inside, they stole 11 rims and three tyres before fleeing undetected.

On August 25, at around 5 AM, the pair allegedly returned to the garage intending to steal again. This time, neighbourhood security guards disturbed them, apprehending Ndebele while Moyo managed to escape.

Ndebele was handed over to the police and later implicated Moyo, leading to his arrest and the recovery of some of the stolen property.
