representative for Zimbabwe, Mr Allan Noudehou, and briefed him on the country’s current political and socio-economic situation.
The two met behind closed doors at State House in Harare.
Sources said President Mugabe explained Zimbabwe’s electoral roadmap as spelt out in the Global Political Agreement to the UNDP official.
According to the GPA, the inclusive Government – borne out of the GPA – is a transitional arrangement leading to harmonised elections.
The sources said the constitution-making process – whose funding the UNDP is co-ordinating – came up for discussion, with President Mugabe pointing out that financial constraints were hindering progress.
Mr Noudehou said President Mugabe spoke of the need for close ties between the UNDP and Government.
President Mugabe urged the new UNDP envoy to study the situation in Zimbabwe so that he can convey objective, accurate information on what was happening in the country rather than relying on biased Western media reports.
The discussion also dwelt on Zimbabwe’s economic pillars, namely, agriculture and mining, where Zimbabwe needs more support to further propel economic growth. – ZBC News.
