Using lotions, risking acne

HELLO there everyone, how are you all? I hope the heat is being kind to you. This week I will be answering a question from a young lady who said since she has been using a lotion called “Carotene” she has been getting darker and her skin has broken out into acne.

All right then! I did speak about this months ago under the title of skin lighteners and their effects. What surprises me is that not only did most people ignore my advice but the shops start selling more of these very skin lighteners and the people using them started calling me telling me that I was right, now can I help them with the side-effects of using these things.

Really, people! Really! What exactly do you want me to say?

But anyway, I am feeling for this young lady who did not have the luxury of reading that article, so here we go briefly. Many of these skin lighteners, in fact all of them, alter your natural skin shade, down to the bottom. So it leaves you without covering. So as soon as you expose yourself to sun or harsh conditions, there is nothing protecting your skin. That is just in a nutshell, it is more detailed than that.

But anyway, the thing is that even if your skin does get lighter, when problem begin, it is very hard to deal with. Your skin is probably getting darker because you are exposing your skin to the sun, which is burning it. You are getting pimples and dark spots because your skin has become sensitive, so it is reacting to what you are using.

My best advice to everyone who are using lightening creams or lotions and are experiencing skin darkening or pimples and spots, they should stop using them straight away. You will have to go back to using something normal.

Unfortunately it takes time to repair the skin on our faces, it is not overnight. Spots and pimples take roughly three months to go completely. This is a high price to pay for ignoring advice. But this is where we are, so first thing — stop using the stuff! Now!

Once you stop using your regular stuff, you need to find a basic product to use, maybe go back to what you used to use before you started using lightening creams. You also need to allow the pimples and spots to dry up. So you need to exfoliate your skin. The best home remedy I can think of is maize-meal. Rub soap on your skin gently then take a little maize-meal and rub it over the area where the problem is on top of the soap. Leave it on for a few minutes, then wash it off with warm soap. Do this at least three times a week.

If you have oily skin, I would suggest that at night you take a cotton bud and dip it into lemon juice a little bit and gently wipe it over your problem area. It will feel like it’s working immediately. If the damage on your skin is excessive, you will need to seek medical attention so that you are not left with scars.

So sorry, dear, but it will take a lot of patience and hard work on your part. And remember lightening creams are only supposed to be used for one month maximum. After that you are asking for trouble.

Hope this helps. Until next time, have a great week!
