THREE top handball clubs from Manicaland were invited to take part in the University of Zimbabwe at 60 Handball Tournament scheduled for this weekend in Harare.
Hardshots, Mutare Teachers’ College and Mutare Poly will carry the province’s flag high as they battle for supremacy it in this tournament.
According to University of Zimbabwe sports director, Life Chemhere, the university will be celebrating its 60 years of existence.
“We will be celebrating our 60th anniversary and we decided to celebrate it in style and through handball. This is an open
invitation and we have invited all the universities, technicalcolleges, teachers’ colleges and top clubs from all the provinces. So far the response has been great and we are looking forward to a good tournament. Schools are also invited since they are the feeders of our colleges and universities,” he said.
Chemhere also said that they would be lots of prizes for the top
teams though he did not disclose the prizes.
“A lot of prizes will be won. We will reward the top teams as well as
individuals. At the moment I cannot disclose as we are still working on it,” he said.
He also urged members of the public to join in the celebrations.
“We urge members of the public to join us on this day and we intend
to make this tournament an annual event,” added Chemhere.
Hardshots coach, Allan Mandeya, said that his team was geared up for the tournament.
“We are ready for this big event. It is good that we go there and mix
with top clubs in the country and I believe we will come out a goodside,” said Mandeya.
Meanwhile, Manicaland Youth Games team came out first in the just-ended handball tournament held at Chikanga Sports Ground. A total of four teams took part and these include Legal Lions, Hardshots, Chikanga and Mutare Poly.
