Uzalo Makes History

Popular local telenovela Uzalo has cemented its spot as the most watched television programme in Mzansi.

Despite the soapie’s reported troubles with the public broadcaster, which led to production being paused in the middle of August, they continue to lead the way when it comes to viewership.

The soap reached an impressive 10.2 million viewers by the end of September — making them “the most watched television programme by far,” the SABC revealed in a statement.

“The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is delighted with the performance of one of its flagship television programmes Uzalo, which is currently being broadcast on SABC1,” the statement read.

“Uzalo has broken all records in the history of television viewing in South Africa.”

Nomsa Philiso, the public broadcaster’s Group Executive for Television added:  “the partnership with Stained Glass Productions is one that keeps exceeding all expectations.

“We are confident that the programme is in line with our strategy of growing audiences, and meeting the needs and expectations of the South African public, by delivering on our public service mandate.” — Daily Sun . .
