VAINONA High School girls rugby coach Shingirai Zhoya says his team has intensified their preparations for the league which begins next week.
Vainona are expected to play Goromonzi on Wednesday in their season-opener.
Defending champions Vainona, were unbeaten at the Dairibord Schools Rugby Festival.
“In the local league we are the defending champions and in our first fixture this season we are going to play Goromonzi and I am confident we going to win,” said Zhoya.
“We train twice a week and I’m happy with the team’s progress.
“I always tell the girls that the sky is the limit and I believe they will be the country’s top players.”
Vainona’s eighth man Tanya Bongamuseve has been impressive.
The 16-year-old Bongamuseve, won the hearts of many fans with her success with the kicks.
“I formed a girls’ rugby team in 2012 when we wanted to participant at the then COTTCO Schools Rugby Festival.
“We had five players when we started and I remember we decided to go around classes looking for more girls to fill the team.
“I then picked Tanya because we needed someone good for kicks and I’m happy that she is the perfect player because her kicks are excellent,” said Zhoya.
Vainona are also the defending champions of the girls’ Super Ten League as well as being the Sevens champions of the Royal College 2014 tournament.
They have been invited to take part in the Under-18 Sevens tournament in South Africa in October.
