VALENTINE’S DAY GIFT LEADS MAN TO ASSAULT MOTHER-IN-LAW

Chipo Mukorama

A WOMAN claims her son-in-law assaulted her over a Valentine’s Day gift.

Elita Mpofu said the attack was sparked by a gift received by her daughter from another man.

This enraged her son-in-law Tinashe Chiyangwa. She dragged Tinashe to the Harare Civil Court.

“He came to my house on Valentine’s Day yelling and screaming, accusing my daughter of being unfaithful after she had received a gift from a friend.

“When I tried to intervene, he pushed me to the ground and assaulted me claiming I was teaching my daughter to be a prostitute.

“My daughter tried to explain to him that it was just a friendly gesture but he would not listen.

“I sustained a leg injury attack.”

In response, Tinashe said:

“I got angry at my mother-in-law because she accepted that another man can give my wife a romantic gift on Valentine’s Day.

“She knows that l am the one who paid lobola for her daughter but still allows other men to come and see her.

“I know what I did was wrong, I failed to control my anger.”

Magistrate Meenal Naratom condemned Tinashe’s actions and granted Elita a peace order.
