Chinhoyi University Tourism and Hospitality student Carole Ngwarai, who is on industrial attachment at the Midlands Hotel, was crowned Miss Gweru on Saturday evening at a glittering pageant that was held at Cathedral Hall.
The 7th edition of the pageant was running under the theme “Empowering women, inspiring change”.
The 23- year-old shrugged off stiff competition from 10 other contestants to land the title.
For her efforts, Ngwarai walked away with a number of prizes courtesy of Chimona Mining Company and Doves Funeral Services.
Chenai Makurumure a Psychology student at Midlands State University was crowned first princess while Patience Nyakomba a Lower Six student at Herentals College in the Midlands capital was crowned second princess.
Four models received consolation prizes from the pageant organisers.
Eugenia Musirinofa was crowned Miss Talent, Cynthia Utete, Miss Personality and Kimberly Kuwodza walked away with the Miss Punctuality crown.
The well organised event saw Gweru’s socialites thronging the venue where up-and-coming local artistes such as Aisha Dawn, Zizo, Roman, Charity, Atlanta Dance Crew, L-Kat, Sleekstar and Umzabalazo Dance Group performed.
In her speech, the director and founder of Image Modelling Agency, the brains behind the show which is always held at the same time with the annual Midlands Agricultural Show, Mavis Koslek said the Miss Gweru pageant was aimed at recognising and developing the girl child.
She said all the girls who participated would have their lives uplifted through various opportunities her agency was going to identify for them.
“The Miss Gweru pageant is simply to promote Gweru and its culture, beauty and to empower the young woman-the girl child. It’s an initiative that seeks to give a chance to young women from Gweru to be the voice in their community,” she said.
