A 32-YEAR-OLD Dangamvura man was sentenced to 10 years in prison after being convicted of stealing three vehicles in Mozambique and smuggling them into the country to sell in Mutare.
The convict, Dickson Nyamura was handed a 10-year sentence by Mutare provincial magistrate Mr Poterai Gwezhira, who suspended three years on condition of future good behaviour.
The court dismissed Nyamura’s defence that an uncle in Mozambique had handed him the vehicles for resale.
Prosecutor Ms Joyce Tinarwo told the court Nyamura stole the cars in separate incidents in Manica province in November and December 2025, using duplicate keys and crossing into Zimbabwe through the illegal Burma Valley route.
The vehicles — a red Honda Fit worth US$2 000, Toyota Hiace worth US$4 000 and another Honda Fit worth US$3 500 — were all recovered in Mutare and positively identified by their owners.
