DRAMA erupted at Mutare Civil Courts on Tuesday after two women from a polygamous marriage decided to exchange word blows over who was the better wife in their marriage during a court session. Winnie Kusena applied for a protection order against Linnet Chiwira, while the latter also countered, praying for protection from the former.
Both parties appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mrs Annie Ndiraya.
The duo that shares a husband only identified as Baba vaEnergy engaged in a verbal fight in court, with Kusena, who is the second wife, claiming that Chiwira was jealous of her because she was the better wife.
Kusena also told the court that Chiwira was violent and always came to her house shouting obscenities. She claimed that Chawira was also in the habit of assaulting her.
“This woman is my husband’s ex-wife, but she keeps insisting that she is still his wife, thereby making unnecessary visits disturbing my peace with my husband most times.
“They divorced in 2008, but she keeps coming back to haunt my husband and his new family.
“My husband loves me so much and he will never leave me for her, no matter what theatrics she may display.
“What I want, however, Your Worship is for her to be barred from visiting my place of residence.
“I want the court to help me put it through her head that my Baba vaEnergy is done with her.
“She should desist from trying to force herself on him,” said Kusena.
Chiwira, however, would not hear of it and claimed that she was still married to her husband and had never been divorced.
She told the court that being called an ex-wife by Kusena was an insult and she deserved an apology.
“She is saying that my husband divorced me in 2008 because that is when the two met.
“It is a lie because I even have a baby with him that was conceived in 2011.
“He loves me so much. We have four children.
“On the issue of the visits, why should I not visit her when I have to go and talk to my husband?”
A protection order which barred both women from disturbing each other’s peace was granted.
