She was 78.
Family spokesperson, Rtd Col Dube said his elder sister died on Monday after succumbing to a kidney ailment at Mater Dei Hospital.
Rtd Col Dube said during the liberation struggle, Mrs Siwardi was constantly being harassed by the colonial police for his involvement in the liberation struggle.
He described his sister as having been a sociable person.
“The family has lost a great pillar of strength who lived for the family and worked hard to educate her family members,” said Rtd Col Dube.
Zanu-PF National Chairman Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo said he had learnt with shock and sadness of the death of Mrs Siwardi.
“I have learnt with deep shock and sadness of the death of your dear sister, the late Mrs Margaret Siwardi, two days ago per kidney ailment at Mater Dei Hospital,” said Ambassador Khaya Moyo.
Mrs Siwardi was born at Fort Usher, Matobo District, on 3 April 1934.
She trained as a teacher at Lower Gwelo Mission and taught at Solusi Primary School.
She later proceeded to study for her Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics in the United States.
In 1981 she came back home and taught at Solusi Secondary School and retired from service after teaching for 40 years.
Mrs Siwardi will be buried on Monday morning at Solusi.
She is survived by three children and several grandchildren.
Mourners are gathered at 28 Baneberry Road, Southwold.
