Veteran journalist Maromo dies

SEASONED journalist and co-founder of the African Media and Communications Forum, Jonisayi Maromo, fondly known as “Warchild”, has died.
Information gathered reveal that Maromo died early this morning at a hospital in Mutare following a short illness.
Jonisayi was a dedicated journalist, thoughtful communicator, and passionate advocate for the growth and transformation of the media sector in Africa.
In a statement, the African Media and Communications Forum said Jonisayi’s death was a huge blow to the profession.
“Jonisayi played an instrumental role in creating a platform that brought together journalists, communicators, policymakers and scholars to reflect on the role of the media in shaping Africa’s democratic and developmental agenda. Through this work, he championed ethical journalism, meaningful dialogue and the strengthening of professional networks across borders. Those who knew Jonisayi will remember him for his intellectual curiosity, humility and unwavering commitment to telling African stories with honesty and depth.
“He believed strongly in the power of the media to inform, empower and connect communities. His voice, insights and mentorship will be sorely missed by many in the profession. On a personal level, I have lost not only a colleague but a dear friend whose counsel, warmth and camaraderie enriched many moments of my professional journey. His passing leaves a void that will be difficult to fill,” read part of the statement.
