United Kingdom-based veteran producer Bothwell Nyamhondera who returned home last week has resumed work at Diamond Studios. Nyamhondera — the man behind the success stories of many top musicians in the country including the likes of Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria, the late Tongai Moyo and others during his stint at Gramma Records — has over the years been missing in action in Zimbabwe while he was doing odd jobs in the UK.

The producer confirmed the latest development saying he was waiting for the completion of a new studio in Milton Park.
“Officially, I started work last week and we are just waiting for the company to finish the studios they are constructing. I have a  five-year contract with Diamond Studios which can always be renewed.

“I am happy to come back, since home is always best,” he said.
Nyamhondera said he had been doing odd jobs in the United Kingdom besides music.
“I was doing general jobs here and there just to survive, and not much on the music side.

“When they (Diamond Studios) approached me with the offer, I grabbed it since it was a good opportunity for me to return home,” he said.
Diamond Studios executive director, Steady Munyanyi, said he was happy that Nyamhondera was joining their stable.

“He has started working, but we just want to finish the studio we are constructing in Milton Park so that they get enough working space,” said Munyanyi.

Munyanyi said the coming of Nyamondera will add another milestone in the music industry as the producer has worked with several musicians across genres.

“He has worked with a number of musicians across all genres and we are taking this as a milestone for the music industry,” said Munyanyi.
Will Nyamondera’s return revive the fortunes of sungura musicians in Zimbabwe? Only time will tell.
