DANCE groups from Victoria Falls will have a rare opportunity to showcase their talents in front of Sadc Heads of State and international delegates when they perform at the regional summit slated for August 17 and 18 here.
This comes after organisers of the summit agreed that only local groups perform.
A combined choral group made of 100 members will sing the national anthem and the Sadc song while dance groups, Umkhankaso Wamajaha, Simunye Arts Ensemble and Black Amakhwezi will perform at the official and closing ceremonies.
They will also welcome delegates at the airport and summit venues.
Popular group, Chicken Bus and the Drum Café from Victoria Falls will entertain permanent secretaries at their dinners being held on August 11 and 14.
Principal director in the Ministry of Sport, Arts and Culture, Reverend Paul Damasane said they wanted to promote artistes from Victoria Falls, especially considering that the summit was being held in their town.
He said an exception was made for superstar, Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi who will entertain Heads of State during their banquet.
“Mtukudzi will perform alongside a police band at the Heads of State banquet after the official opening ceremony. We have a combined 100 member group of choristers from Victoria Falls that will sing the national anthem and the Sadc song on the opening and closing ceremonies,” said Rev Damasane.
Rev Damasane said the dance groups would showcase traditional dances including imbube, jerusalema, mbende, dinhe, indlame, umtshongoyo, isitshikitsha, amabhiza, isichathamiya and amajukwa.
