THE resort town of Victoria Falls will host its carnival dubbed Falls Carnival on 22 August, Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), chief executive, Mr Karikoga Kaseke, has said. In an interview in Victoria Falls yesterday, Mr Kaseke said after the successful hosting of the Harare International Carnival last month which saw over a million people participating, stakeholders and principals in the government had requested that the resort town host the Falls Carnival.
He said the Falls Carnival was going to be the precursor to the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) general assembly which is scheduled to start on 24 August.
Zimbabwe and Zambia are co-hosting the 20th session of the UNWTO general assembly in Victoria Falls and Livingstone respectively.
“I can confirm that we are going to have a Falls Carnival on 22 August. The carnival will be a precursor to the United Nations World Tourism Organisation general assembly which is starting on 24 August,” he said.
Mr Kaseke said the Falls Carnival was expected to be far much better than the Harare International Carnival, adding that plans were at an advanced stage for the hosting of the carnival.
He said they were expecting about 30 000 people to attend the carnival. “We really want to make it the best carnival because we will be welcoming the world to Victoria Falls and the country for the general assembly in a carnival mood, he said.
He said some artistes who were outstanding during the Harare International Carnival would also perform at the Falls Carnival.
