Excavation works for a new runway and compaction for foundation for a new terminal building at the Victoria Falls International Airport are now complete as the $150 million expansion project takes shape.
Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) public relations and communications manager Annajulia Hungwe said work at the airport which started last year was now at various stages.

“Excavation and compaction for foundations for the new terminal building is complete, raft foundation is 85 percent complete, excavation for the new runway is 100 percent complete, 3,500m has been compacted,” she said.

Work at the airport started on 13 April, 2013 following a ground breaking ceremony officiated by Vice-President Joice Mujuru.
The new facilities are expected to increase efficiency in Zimbabwe’s tourism hub as well as improve its image.

The old terminal building has also been rehabilitated and tourists no longer queue outside. The project entails the construction of a new 4km runway, a new international terminal building, new fire station, new control tower and installation of state –of–the art aviation specialist equipment.
