A Victoria Falls-based poet and Mosi-oa-Tunya High School teacher, Obert Dube, has scored a first in the arts sector by compiling an audio poetry anthology. His compilation, Isibane Sami (My light) has 13 poems.  The CD carries his most popular poem, Kubhed’embhedeni.  He has performed the poem in Botswana, South Africa, and Zambia.
Other poems on the CD are Uhambo Lwami (My Journey), Ukufa Isixazululo and Isibane Sami amongst others.
Uhambo lwami talks about his life experiences.

Dube’s poetic works are aimed at reflecting the society’s everyday lives, diverse culture, and death, diseases such as HIV and Aids and social tensions.

“I have titled this CD, Isibane Sami (My light) and my poems are aimed at uniting people,” said Dube.
Dube has performed in front of huge crowds and is pleased with his performance so far.

“I have been inspired by Jeys Marabini to be brave enough to face crowds as a performer and I have done that. I’m very pleased to see many people appreciating my performances and my talent.  It is through hard work and a lot of encouragement that is why I’m here,” said Dube.

Before Dube became a poet, he used to sing for an Imbube group, Ubuntu Bomuntu.
He says that is where he developed and nurtured his talents and became the successful poet he is today.

“My life has been tough as a young boy. I grew up herding cattle in Dandanda, Lupane and I had a lot of responsibilities fending for my siblings,” he said.

Dube revealed that he is multi-lingual and he is working on translating his poems to other languages such as Shona, Tonga, English. He is working on a DVD which he expects to release soon.
