Villagers raise alarm over land grab violence

Chronicle Reporter

Villagers from Lupane and Tsholotsho have voiced their deep concerns regarding the alarming conduct of local war veteran and Zanu-PF supporter, Tamuka Nyoni.

Residents allege that Nyoni has been on a relentless rampage, seizing land that rightfully belongs to villagers by leveraging their positions within the ruling party.

In interviews with community members, it was revealed that Nyoni leads a group that has been terrorizing the districts, indiscriminately grabbing grazing land and communal plots for their own personal gain.

“They have been taking our land without any regard for the law or for the rights of the people,” lamented one villager.

“We are powerless against their actions, as they use their Zanu-PF credentials to intimidate us.”

Another villager expressed the fear that has gripped the community, stating, “We are now afraid to report these incidents. Every time someone tries to speak up, the violence escalates. They have connections within the police, and instead of protecting us, we feel even more threatened.”

This sentiment reflects a growing sense of helplessness among the villagers, who feel trapped between the actions of these individuals and the lack of protection from law enforcement.

Reports of land grabbing have become increasingly frequent, with families losing vital grazing and agricultural land that is essential for their livelihoods.

The community’s frustration is palpable, as many feel their rights are being trampled upon without recourse to justice.

The situation has sparked outrage among the villagers, who are calling for intervention from higher authorities to address the issue and restore order.

“We need help. We deserve to live in peace and to have our land protected,” another villager pleaded.

As tensions rise, the villagers hope that their voices will be heard and that action will be taken to put an end to the land grabbing and intimidation that has left them feeling powerless in their own communities.

The call for justice and protection underscores the pressing need for accountability and support for the rights of ordinary citizens in the face of abuse of power.
