THERE were fewer roadblocks in Bulawayo yesterday as law enforcement agents were redeployed to conduct other security duties in the face of threats to unleash terror by shadowy groups today.
There were no roadblocks that are usually mounted near the fly-over along Luveve road and along Khami road as well as near the railway line, just outside Cowdray Park suburb, among other points.
National police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said they had not really reduced roadblocks, but had redeployed some of their officers.
“We have not really reduced our roadblocks but due to the current situation, the threat of strikes planned for today, we have redeployed police officers to other security duties in other places to ensure maximum security in our country.
“There is a lot of speculation on social media including a strike that was planned for today, and this has caused us to shift duties and also to intensify security patrols and other duties.” She said roadblocks on certain points would remain in place. “We have a lot of other security duties either than the roads,” she said.
A shadowy group, #Tajamuka with links to the MDC-T has threatened to unleash terror in the country today.
