Property owners in some parts of Mutare were counting losses since yesterday night following violent storms that blew off rooftops and uprooted trees that fell on buildings causing extensive damages.

The heavy rains which are punctuated with high-speed winds destroyed several temporary structures in high-density suburbs such as GImboki, Federation and old housing units in Maonde.

Workers at wholesaler, N Richards Group, were busy shifting goods after part of the rooftop at its Sakubva branch was blown off by the raging strong winds.

Manicaland provincial development coordinator Mr Edgars Seenza said government was accessing the extent of the damages caused.

“We have people on the ground who are accessing the damage caused by the heavy rains and as soon they report back to me I will advise you of what action we are going to take.”
