HARARE-BASED visual artist, Gillian Rosselli, believes art gives him confidence to express himself.

Gillian says when he makes his collections and watches the process from start to finish, it helps him gain a feeling of self-accomplishment.

“Firstly, it allows me to channel my emotions and express myself in a unique and powerful way,” he said.

Rosselli’s artwork explores social issues and personal experiences.

He believes that his artwork also seeks to challenge conventional norms, spark dialogue, and encourage viewers to contemplate and engage with the complexities of the world we live in.

“By addressing these topics, through my art, I aim to provoke thought, raise awareness and foster conversations that might otherwise remain unspoken.

“Additionally, my art serves as a catalyst for my own growth and self-exploration.

“It provides a platform for me to examine my own beliefs, values, and identity, encouraging introspection and personal development.

“Making art is my way of communicating with the world,” he said.

Gillian said his artwork also represents a visual embodiment of his thoughts, emotions, and perspectives.

“Each piece carries a unique message and serves as a reflection of my experiences, beliefs and observations.

“The subjects and themes I explore in my artwork often revolve around societal issues, personal struggles, cultural diversity and the human conditions.

“Through symbolism, metaphor, and visual aesthetics, I aim to convey deeper meanings and evoke emotional responses from viewers.

“Ultimately, my artwork serves as a vehicle for self-expression, storytelling, and the exploration of shared human experiences.

“Art is my visual language and it is my way of communicating ideas and content,” he said.

The artist draws inspiration from a myriad of sources that encompass both the external world and internal experiences.

“Nature often serves as a source of inspiration, I find inspiration in the resilience and beauty of the human spirit, observing the triumphs and struggles of individuals.

“Literature, music and other forms of art also ignite my creativity, as they possess the ability to evoke powerful emotions and convey profound ideas.

“I am inspired by the diversity of cultures, histories, and perspectives that exist worldwide, as they offer a rich tapestry of stories and experiences to draw from.

“My own personal journey of growing up and living in Zimbabwe is my biggest inspiration.”
