Club yesterday to claim the seventh best bowling figures by a debutante in a One-Day International.
The impressive left arm fast medium bowler took 5-30, including the first four wickets, to add to his fiver in his Test debut for his country against the Tigers.
A virtually unknown quantity, until now, Vitori is a product of Zimbabwe Cricket’s development programme and he will today see his name among such legends like Allan Donald.
His figures yesterday marked the seventh best such return for a bowler on debut in an ODI.
It also marked the first time a Zimbabwean bowler had achieved such a feat in an ODI, on debut.
At one stage, Vitori had Bangladesh reeling at 33-4, having removed Tamim Iqbal (4), Imrul Kayes (11), Shahriar Nafees (14) and Mohammad Ashraful (2).
He then returned to claim the wicket of tail-ender Shafiul Islam (8).
“I had seen these guys in the Test so I had an idea of how and where to bowl,” Vitori told Cricinfo after the match. “I found that these guys like to play the heaves a lot, so I was trying to mix things up.
“I am enjoying it.”
Tamim was deceived by a short delivery and his decision, to pull, was fatal and Elton Chigumbura was at mid-on to complete a tricky catch as Vitori celebrated his first ODI wicket.
Nafees was beaten by a full length delivery that knocked down his leg stump. Ashraful perished at long leg and Kayes was trapped lbw.
All that was now needed was a fiver and Vitori returned to claim Islam.
