VICE President Kembo Mohadi has arrived in Chimoio, Mozambique, where he will be touring different liberation war shrines, starting with the Nyadzonia Shrine today.
Vice President Mohadi arrived in the neighbouring country last night to continue the programme of assessing liberation war shrines in neighbouring countries and take corrective action where necessary, for the departed freedom fighters to rest in peace.
The Rhodesian regime launched air and ground strikes against the country’s liberation forces and their camps, and against refugee camps in neighbouring countries, and many of those killed in these attacks were buried in those countries.

VP Mohadi is coming from a similar visit to Tanzania, which was preceded by visits to Zambia and Angola.
The visit is part of the Government’s ongoing efforts to document and preserve the legacy of the liberation struggle of fighters and honour fallen heroes and heroines buried in foreign lands.

Vice President Mohadi is accompanied by Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Mozambique, His Excellency Victor Matemadanda, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Deputy Minister, Dr Omphile Marupi and Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Deputy Minister, Honourable Chido Sanyatwe.

He was received at Chimoio Airport by the Mozambican Secretary of State for Manica Province, Professor Lourenco Lindondo, Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza, Deputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Social Services, Reverend Paul Damasane, and Zimbabwe’s Consul General to Beira Mr Malvern Bere.

Between today and tomorrow, the Vice President is expected to tour Nyadzonia, Chimoio and Doroei shrines all in Manica Province of Mozambique.
In Chimoio, the shrine was a training camp for ZANU armed forces during the liberation struggle where over 1 000 people lost their lives, while over 1 800 people also perished when the Rhodesian forces attacked Nyadzonia Refugee Camp.
Doroei Refugee Camp was established on Kaitano Farm to accommodate survivors of the brutal Nyadzonia massacre.
To date, remains of about 900 people are still lying in unmarked graves at Doroei.
At Chimoio, Nyadzonia, Tembwe, Nyangao (Beira), and Tongogara Memorial Site and Changara, mass graves have been constructed, while at shrines that include Madulu, Mapai, Barrage, Chibavava, Navonde, Espungabeira and Save remains of those who were either killed or died during the war are still lying in unmarked graves.
