PRIMARY schools in Gwanda/Tshitaudze Constituency, care homes and chiefs have benefited from a donation of rice from President Mnangagwa aimed at alleviating hunger in vulnerable communities.
President Mnangagwa allocated four tonnes of rice to each Member of Parliament to be distributed to communities.
Speaking during a recent ceremony to handover the consignment at Gwanda/Tshitaudze Constituency Information Centre, local legislator Cde Fisani Moyo said the donation was in line with President Mnangagwa’s mantra of ‘leaving no one and no place behind’.
He said schools were the prime beneficiaries as children are mostly vulnerable.
Other beneficiaries are Gwanda Old People’s Home, Gwanda Provincial Hospital, Phakama Clinic and Gwanda Prison.
“We were allocated four tonnes of rice each as legislators across the country by President Mnangagwa to distribute to communities,” said Cde Moyo.
He said he decided to allocate the rice to primary schools in his constituency in order to support the school feeding programme.
“The situation was bad last year because of the El-Nino-induced drought leaving many families without food,” he said.

Cde Moyo said the school feeding programme was meant to ensure learning was not affected by lack of food at home.
He paid tribute to President Mnangagwa for the support and commended the benefiting institutions for continuing to work with the vulnerable in society.
“I would like to express my gratitude to President Mnangagwa for this donation which will ensure the needy have food. Our President is a listening leader who is sensitive to the people’s plight.
Mrs Elita Manda who is a voluntary caregiver at Gwanda Old People’s Home said the donation will go a long way in ensuring adequate food for the inmates.
“We are grateful for this assistance from our President and our local MP. As an institution we always look forward to receiving assistance to ensure that our inmates are taken care of,” she said.
