MONS Football Club in the Belgian Jupiler League who are home to former Highlanders player Vusa Nyoni finally won after beating Lokeren.
Nyoni was brought in for goal scorer Flavian Le Postollec in the 76th minute mainly to fortify the defence and hang on for a dear first win in 17 matches so far this season. They, however, remain rooted to the bottom of the log standings with a paltry six points and are still firm favourites to be relegated next year.
Still in Belgium, KV Oostende, home to former Caps United forward Nyasha Mushekwi, lost 0-2 to Club Brugge while Quincy Antipas’ Danish side Brondby were shocked 1-3 by Kobenhavn.
The result came as a shock for Antipas and teammates as they had been playing well of late.
Costa Nhamoinesu, formerly with AmaZulu and now a star defender at Sparta Praha in the Czech Republic, was yellow-carded in the 52nd minute as his side won 3-2 on the road to Jablonec. Nhamoinesu, the only non Czech player in the squad, has been one of the most consistent Zimbabwean players in Europe.
In Romania, Mike Temwanjira was on target for his Vaslui side as they beat Ceahlud Piatra Neamt 3-0 over the weekend.
