BARELY 24 hours after his release from prison, dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel was seemingly back on his musical grind.
The entertainer promoted a new 12-track project titled “First Week Out” via the platform X on Thursday. Distributed by Hapilos, the project features only one collaborator, Squash.
Tracks on the album include “Feel Great” (Intro), “The Menace”, “Terror by Night”, “Unstoppable”, “Skilful”, “Adiadking”, “Giant”, “Victorious”, “Beat Dem Bad”, “Win”, “Success Story”, and “Number One”.
Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, was released from the Tower Street Adult Correctional Facility on Wednesday afternoon after the Court of Appeal overturned his murder conviction.
News of his long-awaited freedom caused widespread celebration among fans in the Corporate Area.
Kartel, along with co-accused Shawn “Shawn Storm” Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St John, had been convicted of the September 2011 murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams.
Their appeal was initially dismissed by the Jamaican Court of Appeal in 2020. The men took their case to the Privy Council in the United Kingdom in a last attempt at freedom.
On March 14, the Privy Council overturned their murder convictions due to juror misconduct, sending the case back to Jamaica’s Court of Appeal.
