Walking in Spirit: Be positive

Philippians 2:3-4; “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.”

I am often amazed at how much people yearn for bad news; they just cannot get enough of it. The best headlines are the ones that speak of gloom. An entire industry is based on negativity. It’s like a drug that people cannot get enough of.

This desire manifests in people to have this endless penchant to be negative and to wish ill of other people, including friends and family. Sometimes the desire to just be horrible overwhelms the average individual to a point where they wantonly go out of their way to be nasty towards other people.

Somehow we have lost track of the fact that we are all gifted with the power to be positive, to do our best and to wish the best for others. We make up the communities we live in, we are the catalyst for the change we want. Therefore we need to look at ourselves first, if you do not like something and you don’t want people to do it to you then do not do it to other people as well.

The Bible tells the story of the rich young man who asked for the keys to the kingdom of God, he was told by Jesus to give up all he had and follow Him. He felt it was easier to give up on the promise than change his ways. It’s often easier to continue on the path we know than to change and reform.

I have noticed that one of the most difficult things to do is to change, to change our ways midway and become new creations.

However, the Lord has said to us it is possible for one to find a new direction, to have their mind renewed and become a new person in Christ. I was speaking to a friend today and she said something interesting, she said the problem with human beings is that they want to change without fully embracing Jesus and accepting Him in their lives.

They want to only embrace a bit of him without fully saying; “Lord take me as I am, a weak vessel that needs help.”

Do you want to be a new person? Do you want to change, find new meaning, and start spreading positivity? Change starts with a deliberate, but assisted effort to do things differently. The need of the hour is for us to start spreading a new culture among us where we celebrate each other rather than pull each other down. Be blessed.
