Walking in Spirit: It never rains, but pours

1 Peter 5 vs 10; “And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.”

Have you ever thought to yourself “everything I try to do comes with so much difficulty”? Yes you sometimes achieve the desired result in the end, but the path to success is filled with difficulties, obstacles and unexplainable challenges.

I was thinking about a friend of mine recently who has led an extraordinary life. He has enjoyed a very successful career, transcended and moved boundaries that seemed impossible. At some point he has even been a trailblazer in his industry.

As I thought of the journey he has travelled, I could not help, but wonder how he overcame all the insurmountable obstacles that he had to deal with at every turn. He has dealt with all sorts of challenges, some social and some caused by the people around him. I came to the realisation that it is like that with most of us.

In our lives at some point there are things that happen that we cannot explain or understand. Sometimes you take 10 steps forward just to be pulled 20 steps back, you are literally brought to your knees and you have to stand up, dust yourself and complete the task at hand.

It has become easier to attribute all our moments of misfortune to either karma or just down right bad luck.

The truth, however, is that God in His wisdom will never give us more than we can possibly handle. We are put in challenging situations for a purpose; he wants our stories to become great testimonies for others.

In the midst of stumbling, falling and facing all sorts of obstacles aimed at slowing us down, something extraordinary will be happening. During those moments your capacity to deal with situations is enlarged, your character is being moulded to deal with greater responsibility and more importantly the despair forces you to go on your knees.

Have you ever wondered how, despite his calling, Paul experienced so much physical and emotional pain at the hands of people who were bent on either stopping him or killing him?

We all experience all sorts of negative situations, what makes the difference is how we deal with them and the amount of faith we have in our Maker. God ultimately knows what’s best for us.
