A birdie on the first playoff hole saw Michael Wallace edge out Kelvin Muchenje to claim the 2025 Mzilikazi Classic at Bulawayo Country Club on Sunday.
The two Zimbabwe national squad stars had finished tied at 216 after 54 holes, forcing a sudden-death showdown on the par-four 18th. Wallace’s comeback capped an impressive tournament for the 79-strong field, marking the third edition of the Classic.
Muchenje had dominated the first two rounds with scores of 70 and 69, taking a three-stroke lead into the final day. Wallace fought back with a tournament-best 67 in the second round and finished strong with 74, forcing the playoff. Muchenje faltered with a 77 in the final round.
Darlington Chikanyambidze claimed third place on 220 with rounds of 79, 73, and 68.
The tournament coincided with the annual King Mzilikazi Day commemorations, adding extra prestige to Wallace’s triumph.
