Walsh not sacked from ‘The X Factor’

It was thought that Louis Walsh had sensationally been axed from “The X Factor” after 11 years of service, but new reports claim the star is in talks over a returning role.

The judging panel stalwart was previously said to have been told personally that he was no longer required on the show by boss Simon Cowell, claims The Sun on Sunday.

According to the paper, a senior show source on the ITV1 programme said that it was Simon’s final decision to make the cut and also have him tell him man to man.

“They are close friends so Simon wanted to do this the right way,” the source said to the publication’s Dan Wootton, adding that it went badly back in 2011 when he chose the show’s executive producer to tell Cheryl Fernandez-Versini that she had lost her job on the US X Factor panel.

“So Simon spoke to Louis and told him that it’s 95 percent certain that he’ll be ‘stood down’ this year.”

Another source close to the popular TV talent show added of the 62-year-old: “Viewers had become sick of Louis” constant use of tired clichés and the same old jokes.”

However, a source close to Louis has told the Irish Daily Mail that he was surprised when the reports about his apparent sacking surfaced.

In fact, it has now been claimed that Simon spent most of Saturday evening discussing Louis’ possible return to the ITV show.

“Louis is 100 percent not sacked”, a close friend confirmed.

“This story appeared on Sunday and said that Louis was axed by Simon. The truth is that Simon did phone Louis but did not fire him from the show. He told him that he was in the mix but that his job was not guaranteed.

“That has always been the way with Louis and Simon. There is a short list of about four people to take the remaining two judging slots and Louis is part of that list.” — Daily Mail.
