Wanted Chimanimani man still on the run

In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the exercise targets suitably qualified Zimbabwean citizens to join the force in various categories, including general duty constables, construction technicians and artisans and tailor technicians. “The Zimbabwe Republic Police is recruiting suitably qualified candidates who are Zimbabwean citizens, physically fit, to join the organisation as general duty constables and train for a Diploma in Police Studies at Morris Police Academy, an affiliate of the University of Zimbabwe,” he said.

Police are still looking for the Chimanimani man, who is based in South Africa, Francis Makuma Magirayano, on allegations of shooting and seriously injuring three people, including his wife, following a domestic dispute on Independence Day.

Magirayano (30) had just returned from the neighbouring country when the incident occurred at Kopa Business Centre in Chimanimani.

The other victims are his sister-in-law and a shopkeeper. His whereabouts are still not known, and police have launched a manhunt for the suspect.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said they were still looking for the suspect in connection with the case.

“The ZRP is still appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of Francis Makuma Magirayano, aged 30, who is wanted in connection with a case of attempted murder which occurred on April 18, 2026, in Chimanimani,” he said.

“The suspect, who is believed to have recently returned from South Africa driving a silver Toyota Fortuner (registration JV 70 SM GP), allegedly shot three victims with a firearm following a domestic dispute with his wife, Mercyline Mahembe, aged 26.

“The victims include his wife, whom he shot multiple times on the cheek, hand and thigh, his sister-in-law, whom he shot on the leg and a shopkeeper at a shop at Kopa Business Centre.”

All victims are currently admitted to a hospital in Chipinge.
