Afro-pop duo, Jaziel Brothers, which was awarded the job to record albums for the winner and runners-up of the Elundini Municipality’s Dare to Dream competition, is said to be gearing themselves up for a nasty legal battle over Nathi’s royalties.
Buyel’ekhaya was recorded by the Jaziel Brothers, but Nathi allegedly presented it to Lance’s Ghetto Ruff/Muthaland Entertainment record label as his own work.
“The brothers aren’t happy and believe the album is their intellectual property,” said a source.
But rumour has it the album produced by the brothers was of inferior quality.
“The municipality didn’t accept the album copies and a notice of demand was sent to the Jaziel Brothers demanding delivery of proper copies, which never happened,” a source said.
On the other side of the war, Lance said he’s tired of the brothers’ argument.
He said: “The issue is between the Jaziel Brothers and the Elundini Municipality. As for the courts, we’ve received nothing.”
And in a strange twist, someone allegedly tried to sell Nathi’s album to Bula Music’s Tshepo Ndzimande.
Tshepo said when he realised there were so many people fighting for Nathi, he backed off.
This week Nathi, the eye of the storm, said: “The Jaziel Brothers never had my best interests at heart. The duo was paid to produce albums for me.
“Now that I’m putting food on the table the two want to claim a piece of me.
“Only Bongani Mahlaule can say I’m his product because he mentored me.”
Jaziel Brothers manager Ntuthuko Mdluli said: “We’re not at liberty to discuss the legal action we’ve taken regarding our contract with Elundini Municipality.”- Daily Sun
