WAR veterans in Bulawayo yesterday said they are confident that President Emmerson Mnangagwa will appoint Cabinet Ministers who will address problems affecting the country in line with his vision.
The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans’ Association (ZNLWVA) Bulawayo provincial chairman Cde Cephas Ncube said since assuming power last year in November, the President has been clear on the need to put economics before politics.
Cde Ncube was speaking at a press conference held to congratulate President Mnangagwa for winning the July 30 presidential elections.
The provincial war veterans chairman said as former freedom fighters they were confident that President Mnangagwa would appoint Cabinet Ministers who understand his vision for the country.
“The President is intelligent and when you are talking about the economy he is among the first people to prioritise the economy. He has said jobs, jobs, economy, economy and less politics. So it means he knows the calibre of people he should appoint to drive the economy,” said Cde Ncube.
“We cannot make pronouncements on the type of people he should appoint as Ministers. He knows the calibre of people who should be in his Cabinet. He is the right man and he will choose the right people at the right time.”
He said there is no need for the public to be making unnecessary pronouncements on his prerogative such as the appointment of ministers.
President Mnangagwa is soon expected to appoint new Ministers following the July 30 harmonised elections.
Cde Ncube said as former freedom fighters, they were hopeful that President Mnangagwa’s trip to China for the 2018 Summit of Forum on China-Africa Co-operation (FOCAC) would be beneficial for the country.
“We’re expecting a lot from President Mnangagwa as he promised during the elections. We know he is a man of his word. After winning the election he has gone to China. As expected when the father leaves home, children become expectant that the father will bring goodies. So we know that goodies are coming,” he said.
“Zimbabweans should expect good things from President Mnangagwa’s leadership. Before the elections he preached about peace and we are expecting that the same environment prevails during his tenure.”
Cde Ncube said war veterans are excited that Zanu-PF won the elections and will have a two-thirds majority in Parliament which will enable the party to implement its programmes without any challenges.—@nqotshili
