Warriors duo on recovery

WARRIORS duo of goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze and fullback Ronald Pfumbidzayi are recovering well from their treatment rooms after suffering neck muscle sprain and undergoing a sports hernia surgery respectively.

Chipezeze was stretchered off the pitch a fortnight ago after suffering a horrific injury during an Absa Premiership game between Baroka and Maritzburg United.

Chipezeze landed awkwardly on his neck just 10 minutes into the second half following an aerial collision with Maritzburg United’s Judas Moseamedi.

“I’m now doing light training and I want to thank the Almighty for protecting me. Getting injured is part of football. I suffered a neck muscle sprain and X-Rays done after the match as a precaution to exclude cervical spine injuries,” said Chipezeze in an interview from his base in South Africa.

His Warriors teammate Pfumbidzai recently underwent surgery for his sports hernia and the defender has been out of action since mid-December last year due to a groin injury which might have caused the problem.

Posting on his official Twitter handle the defender said: “Faith is why I’m here today and faith is why I made it through.”

According to an online research, recovery time for sports hernia surgery occurs in phases. Ambulating without crutches after one to four days, light exercise including pool therapy in one to two weeks, light resistance training and jogging in three weeks and sport specific therapy at three to six weeks.
