‘Warriors need substantive coach’

The senior national team has been without a substantive coach since February when Zifa suspended Norman Mapeza.

FC Platinum coach Rahman Gumbo is holding fort on an interim basis but has so far failed to win a match from the three games he has been in charge.

The trio of Chris “Romario” Musekiwa, Khain Nyambuya and David Rupiya believe that Gumbo is being weighed down by the pressure of handling both the Warriors and FC Platinum.

Gumbo was away, for two days this week, for a meeting with his employers, FC Platinum in Zvishavane. Given the huge assignment against Burundi on Sunday, the Warriors’ cheerleaders believe the national team needed a coach who was totally focused on a single job.

Nyambuya believes the issue of a substantive national team coach is key to success.

“Zifa should appoint a full-time national coach and also employ people who are capable of running football better,” said Nyambuya.

Rupiya called on the Ministry of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture to urgently move in and help Zifa address the challenges.

“There is a lot going on and we need a collective approach from all stakeholders so that the circus within our football is stopped,” said Rupiya.
