THE Warriors and their female counterparts the Mighty Warriors are set to go toe-to-toe in this yeara��s edition of the Annual National Sports Awards (Ansa) Team of the Year award after qualifying for their respective Africa Cup of Nations finals.
The Mighty Warriors qualified for the Africa Women Cup of Nations in Cameroon next month while the Warriors will play against the best African teams in next yeara��s Afcon finals in Gabon.
The Sports and Recreation Commission, who are the organisers of the event, have started calling for nominations of athletes from sports associations.
The annual ceremony is pencilled for 14 December.
The nomination process closes on November 8.
a�?Currently the SRC is receiving the nomination forms, however, we wish to implore the national sport associations to submit the nominations, since they know exactly, who competed in what competition and the level of the competitions they entered their athletes,a�? said SRC corporate communications officer Tirivashe Nheweyembwa.
In individual awards boxer Charles Manyuchi is the favourite to win Sportsperson of the Year award after a remarkable year where he won the World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight silver title.
Manyuchi bashed Russian Dmitry Mikhaylenko in May this year to win the WBC welterweight silver.
On 14 October he floored Columbian opponent Jose Augustin Julio Feria in a World Boxing Council (WBC) non-title fight in two minutes and 42 seconds at the Harare International Conference Centre.
There are 17 categories up for grabs including the Coach of the Year, Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year awards.
