THE Warriors are still waiting for their first win over the Super Eagles in 45 years.
The latest duel between the two countries ended in a comfortable 2-0 win for the Nigerians at The Valley in a Unity Cup semi-final on Tuesday night.
The Warriors were hoping to win only their SECOND match against the Super Eagles.
Interestingly, the Warriors won the first match, a friendly international in August, 1981, 2-0.
It remains our only win over the Nigerians.
Going into their Unity Cup showdown, the Warriors had not lost a game against the Super Eagles in TWENTY years.
The last loss had come in a 2006 AFCON finals match in Egypt when the Nigerians won 2-0 in Port Said.
Since then, the Warriors had drawn their three matches against the Super Eagles with their 2026 World Cup qualifiers ending in identical 1-1 draws.
The two results effectively cost Nigeria a place at the 2026 World Cup finals.
Even our friendly international, on June 8, 2019, had also ended in a draw.
On Tuesday night, the Nigerians changed that script as they powered to a deserved 2-0 win over Zimbabwe.
This now means the Super Eagles have won five, lost one and drawn four of the ten matches they have played against the Warriors.
