Warthog killers fined US$150 each

NINE Harare men were fined US$150 each after they were found guilty of contravening the Parks and Wildlife Act by killing three warthogs at a private plot which they hunted with a pack of 27 dogs.Collen Parakati (42), Tazviwirira Muengwa (33), Tazvitya Munetsi (39), Tamanikwa Maonera (46), Samuel Makazhu (28), Kaifiri Luke (30), Kudzaishe Madiro (40), Goodson Chivero (44) and Anyway Chivoro (27) were all convicted of killing the warthogs worth US$600.

Magistrate Mr Don Ndirowei found the nine guilty of contravening section 59 (2) (a) of the Parks and Wildlife Act, Chapter 20:14. Failure to pay the fine, would result in them spending a month in jail. Prosecutor Mr Oscar Madhume proved that on August 31, the nine went to Sunlands in Borrowdale, Harare, which belongs to Willard Makotose.

Evidence brought in court proved that around 9am, the nine went to the plot with the pack of 27 dogs with the aim of hunting. During the hunting trip, circumstances are that the pack of dogs killed three warthogs and they loaded the loot into their truck.

It was proved that the nine were arrested by Makotose’s security guards and a report was made to the police.
