FAIR, consistent and credible officiating is key in football.
Zifa Southern Region chairman, Cris Mtungwazi, said this is at the heart of the evolution of the game. He was speaking at the official opening of the match commissioners’ workshop being attended by over 40 participants drawn from all over the country.
Kenias Marange and Sabelo Maphosa-Sibindi are the facilitators.
“This seminar comes at a pivotal moment in our football journey. The modern game is evolving at an unprecedented pace – faster, more technical and increasingly scrutinized.
“At the heart of this evolution lies one constant, the need for fair, consistent and credible officiating,” said Mtungwazi.
He described the course for the just retired referees as a special moment for the game.
“The gathering is therefore not just a routine exercise, it is a strategic investment in integrity of our game. It is about sharpening minds aligning standards and ensuring that our referees are equipped to meet both the demands and expectations of modern football,” said Mtungwazi.

He said referees’ instructors occupy a unique and powerful position development.
“You are not merely trainers, you are custodians of standards. You are mentors, educators and the bridge between theory and practice.

“The quality of refereeing we witness on the pitch is a direct reflection of the quality of instruction behind the scenes. A well-prepared referee begins with a well-equipped instructor,” said Mtungwazi.
