AN emotional send-off was held at Brethren In Christ Church (BICC) in Bulawayo as family, football legends and clergy gathered to honour the late Virginia Sibanda, widow of iconic coach Rahman Gumbo, ahead of her burial today at Umvutshwa Cemetery.

Sibanda (63) passed away on Sunday at United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) after a courageous battle with cancer.

The service was a touching tribute, drawing a crowd that included Highlanders greats Madinda Ndlovu, Douglas Mloyi and Amini Soma Phiri, as well as former ZIFA vice president Omega Sibanda and veteran coach Philani Mabhena.

Pastors from across Zimbabwe and beyond, who once ministered alongside Virginia, hailed her as a devout servant of God who transformed countless lives through prayer, compassion and leadership.

Her passing comes less than two years after the death of her husband Rahman Gumbo, who died in Botswana in November 2023.

In her final days, the family had appealed for help to clear hospital bills after a costly US$15 000 surgery.

Today, Virginia takes her final rest beside her beloved Rahman — leaving behind a legacy of faith, family and football.
