WATCH: Mining firm pushes key road construction projects in Bubi

BUBI-based mining firm, Mingchang Sino-Africa Mining Investment has been commended for its Corporate Social Responsibility projects that it has done in Matabeleland North province.

The company, which has been operating in Zimbabwe for the past 15 years has demonstrated a commitment not only to mining excellence but also to community development and infrastructure improvement.

In 2024, the company has undertaken significant projects in Bubi district that have directly benefited the local communities, including road construction, educational support, and employment creation.

The company, in collaboration with the Bubi Rural District Council (RDC), has successfully rehabilitated and constructed several key roads in the area. These include, Peter Pan Mine to Bubi Mine Road (30 km of gravel road), Tiberious Road (5 km stretch improved for smoother transport), detour between Mbembezi River and Turk Mine on Bulawayo-Nkayi Road (4 km of critical access road) and Bulawayo-Nkayi Road (ARDA Balu Turnoff to Umfazi Umithi – Sunace Mine- 16 km of upgraded road infrastructure).

These roads are vital arteries for transporting goods, facilitating business operations, and improving access for local communities.

Commenting on the projects, Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Richard Moyo, highlighted the importance of collaboration between investors, local authorities, and the government.

Minister Moyo, recently visited the road construction projects to assess the progress being done.

He expressed his satisfaction with the progress.

“We, as the government, are very happy with the work being done by Mingchang Sino-Africa. These projects are improving livelihoods, opening up economic opportunities, and fostering investor confidence in Zimbabwe. It’s great to see such responsible investment at work,” said the Minister.

He said the success of Mingchang Sino-Africa in Matabeleland North highlights the critical role of responsible investors in nation-building.

“Collaboration between mining companies, local communities, and government authorities is essential for creating a sustainable development framework,” he said.

Ming Chang Sino-Africa regional manager Mr Liang Guo Du highlighted the company’s vision for long-term sustainable development in Zimbabwe.

“As Mingchang, we believe in building more than just mines; we are committed to building communities. Through our partnership with the Bubi RDC, we have worked on several roads and donated 26 000 bricks to Mbembeswane Primary School this year.

“Our goal is to ensure that while we extract value from the land, we also leave lasting value behind for the communities that host us,” said Mr Du.

Bubi RDC chief executive officer, Dr Patson Mlilo, commended Mingchang for their contributions.

“We are very happy with what this company is doing in Bubi. They have answered our call to assist communities where they operate. These contributions are making a significant difference in the lives of many people here. I urge stakeholders to support such initiatives,” said Dr Mlilo.
