Bulawayo’s nightlife just got a spicy new addition, and DJ Eugy lit it up like a bonfire.
The city’s latest lifestyle gig, Warrinaland, went down at Mystique gardens on Saturday, and while it was not the biggest crowd, the vibes were undeniable. The Naija, Afrobeats, and Dancehall-themed affair delivered a laid-back but electric atmosphere on a cold night, perfect for partygoers wanting a break from the usual.
But let’s be honest, it was DJ Eugy, aka “Minister of Enjoyment”, who owned the night. He stormed the decks with Shallipopi’s viral anthem Laho, blasting the lyrics “Minister of enjoyment” right when the crowd was at peak vibe. Drinks were flowing, people were grooving, and Eugy struck while the iron was hot. The track hit so hard, it was played twice, both times sending the dance floor into a frenzy.
Eugy didn’t miss a beat. His set was seamless, high-energy, and perfectly timed. Phones were out, reels were rolling, and the younger crowd couldn’t get enough. He delivered a masterclass in crowd control and musical timing.
Before Eugy’s explosive set, veteran Emity Smooth laid down the groundwork with his signature genre-bending mix. The man’s experience showed, smooth transitions, bold track choices, and an unmistakable command of the crowd. Feel G also brought a refreshing twist by pairing his set with a live saxophonist, adding a unique flavour to the night.
But not all that glitters is gold. Rising spinner DJ Sfiso had a rough ride. Despite following seasoned pros, her set lacked punch and saw the energy dip. For many, it was the cue to call it a night.
A recurring issue though? Bulawayo Exclusive Events who are behind events, Garden of House, and Private School and were part of this latest addition, need to shake up the line-up. Recycling the same DJs at every event is wearing thin. If they want to keep audiences hooked, it’s time to inject new blood and fresh sounds.
That said, Warrinaland delivered where it mattered: good music, great energy, and a celebration of African beats. If this debut was anything to go by, the event has all the makings of a future fixture on Bulawayo’s social calendar.
