THE family of the late National Hero Dumiso Dabengwa is appealing to Government to step in and stop illegal mining activities that are threatening to desecrate the grave of the liberation war stalwart.

Dabengwa was laid to rest at a family and community cemetery in Ntabazinduna, Umguza district, about 37 kilometres from Bulawayo on 1 June 2019.

His grave is among many other family and community members who are laid to rest in the area.

Barely 20 metres away from the graveyard perimeter fence, illegal gold panners are wreaking havoc by digging trenches in their unbridled search for gold.

The Dabengwa family and community members are worried that the illegal activities are getting too close to the graveyard.

Mr Collen Zidla Ndlovu, the late Dabengwa’s brother, appealed to authorities to intervene.
“The gold panners are on the verge of destroying and tampering with the graves of our relatives who are buried in a graveyard next to where they are digging for gold. My brother is also buried at the community graveyard, and we are appealing for Government to intervene,” said Mr Ndlovu.
