HIGHLANDERS have cleared players outstanding signing-on fees and winning bonuses from the 2024 season, thanks to Wicknell Chivayo’s intervention.
The debt stood at US$57 000.
Both the club and Chivayo’s appointed curator Jabulani Nkomo confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that the money had already been disbursed with players also confirming that they had already received the money.
This comes as a morale booster ahead of the team’s Sunday Castle Lager Premiership clash with Greenfuel at Barbourfields Stadium.
Chivayo who previously paid US$20 000 to clear former coach Brito Baltemar and his assistant’s outstanding dues, to avert a Fifa transfers ban, gave Highlanders US$1,000,000 to be spread between July and January next year.
The Harare businessman has already released the first tranche of US$250 000 and part of will go towards the erection of a perimeter wall of 800m at the Highlanders Clubhouse.
“We have started with the payment of winning bonuses and we got the figures from the executive which confirmed an amount of US$57 000. We got the figures from Highlanders, that money has been disbursed. We are on our way to delivering what we promised from the donor,” said Nkomo.
Highlanders treasurer Nkani Khoza was a relieved man, quipping that he will now afford some sleep.
Bosso captain Ariel Sibanda who was accompanied by his deputies, Andrew Mbeba and Melikhaya Ncube confirmed receipt of their dues.
“We received the winning bonuses, the boys are raring to go,” said Bosso captain Ariel Sibanda.
