The Zimbabwe Teachers Association (ZIMTA) is hosting its 40th annual national conference in Bulawayo, bringing together educators from across the nation.
The conference has also seen representatives from various teachers’ unions in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region attending.

In his opening remarks, ZIMTA CEO Dr Sifiso Ndlovu emphasised the importance of addressing key issues impacting teachers and the education sector as a whole.
Dr Ndlovu highlighted the need for innovative solutions to enhance teaching conditions and improve educational outcomes.
“As we gather here today, it is crucial that we engage in meaningful discussions that will shape the future of education in Zimbabwe. We especially want to look at issues that will improve the education sector in the country, including digitising the sector and improving ICT in rural schools,” he said.

The five-day conference is expected to promote collaboration among educators and stakeholders, aiming to devise strategies that will address the challenges faced by teachers and enhance the overall quality of education in Zimbabwe.
Among the critical topics on the agenda are a review of the association’s constitution, the digitisation of the education sector, the integration of information and communication technology (ICT) in rural schools, and the management of teacher workloads resulting from the heritage-based curriculum.
