TOWNSEND High School is today honouring learners who excelled in academics and sport, with outstanding teachers also set to be recognised for producing impressive results in the 2025 Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) final examinations.
The school is holding its Speech and Prize Giving Day under the theme “Raising Girls of Character, Competence and Courage,” reflecting its commitment to developing well-rounded learners who can make a positive contribution to society.

Townsend High headmistress Mrs Thokozile Shabalala said the theme reflected the values the school sought to instil in learners beyond the classroom.
She said the school’s focus was not only on academic achievement, but also on developing girls with character, confidence and the courage to take up responsibilities in society.

“The theme, ‘Raising Girls of Character, Competence and Courage’, speaks to our commitment to developing learners who are grounded in good values, equipped with the necessary skills and confident enough to face the challenges of the world,” said Mrs Shabalala.
Townsend High School School Development Committee (SDC) vice-chairperson Mr Thabani Ncube urged learners to remain focused on their studies, saying education remained an important tool in shaping their future.

He encouraged the learners to work hard and make the most of the opportunities provided by the school.
“Education is the key to success. I encourage our learners to continue working hard and remain focused on their education because what they do today will shape their future,” said Mr Ncube.
Guest of honour Mr Lucky Mlilo said Townsend High had established a reputation for grooming girls who went on to become responsible leaders and citizens.
Mr Mlilo encouraged the learners to take pride in themselves and appreciate the role they would play in shaping future generations.
“Townsend High is well known for grooming girls of honour who become responsible leaders and citizens. I encourage you to take pride in yourselves because you are the mothers and leaders of tomorrow,” he said.
