ZIFA Matabeleland South chairman Nkosilathi Ncube has commended national board boss Nqobile Magwizi for engaging the Government in coming up with the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup.
Ncube was speaking just before the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup provincial final at Jessie Mine outside Gwanda town on Sunday.
Nottingham Estate emerged winners beating New Eclipse 1-0.
“We would like to thank people who have sourced this tournament on behalf of the affiliates for the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup, it will go a long way. This tournament will be played for five years. This is its inception. The excitement that we are seeing here I am sure next year teams will be more prepared,” he said.
Ncube praised Magwizi for working with the Government in coming up what has been an exciting tournament.
“Thank you to president Magwizi for engaging the Government led by our President Mnangagwa so that we have this tournament.
“We are a rural province so our prayer is to see the winner of today’s match (Sunday) play Highlanders or Scotland. With the talent that we have we are ready to go to the finals. It will be a dream for our team to represent the country in the CAF Confederations Cup,” he said.
The crowd braved the chilly weather to rally behind their teams.
In attendance were Zifa Matabeleland South board member responsible for finance Peter Smith, Lordwell Ziyaduma (competitions), David Chisando (development) and Seitso Zhou the Zifa Matabeleland South administrator.
