The Plumtree Town Council has issued an urgent notice to residents following a critical failure of a pipe at the main distribution tower, resulting in a temporary water disruption across the town.
Residents in high-lying areas have been warned to brace for severe water shortages, as the town’s backup pumping system has limited capacity to compensate for the failure.
“Water distribution will now be done through direct pumping into the main water lines. Please note that this is a temporary measure to ensure water availability, but it comes at a higher electricity cost for the pumping motors,” the Plumtree Town Council said in a statement.
To minimise financial strain, the council has announced the implementation of a controlled usage plan, meaning intermittent water supply for residents and institutions until full repairs are completed.
Meanwhile, a team of engineers is working around the clock to restore the damaged pipe and resume normal water distribution.
“Residents will be periodically updated on the progress of the restoration,” the statement read.
With water shortages expected to persist, residents are urged to use water sparingly until the crisis is resolved.
