Afro-jazz crooner Alexio Kawara and percussive jazz singer Victor Kunonga are billed to perform at the Book Cafe this Thursdays when musician Tina Watyoka launches her second album, “Ndoita Sei?”
Tina’s second offering is a six-track offering of no specific genre and has some lively afro-pop, Mozambican pasada rhythms and slow soulful jams.
Some of the tracks to look forward to include “Regai Ndiende” penned by Kawara and talks about destiny, “Shivers”, “Usazvipe Pressure”, “Amai” and “Ndendende” a traditional-Shona gospel song.
“I wanted to cater for everyone and the different music styles reflect different moods and ‘spaces’ where musicians find themselves in real life,” said Tina.
Tina said she took time with this album because she had a lot of issues to deal with and wanted people to hear her stories.
“I am sharing a part of myself that I know many can identify with.
“ Compared to the first album, I think this is more mature, after a wealth of general experience I have gained from school and other musicians,” she said.
Her first album was programmed, but this time it is a live studio recording with fine musicians, recorded at Monolio Studios in Harare.
She recorded her debut album “Introducing Tina” in 2010, which received good airplay in Zimbabwe.
Tina has worked with other acclaimed artists among them the late mbira star Chiwoniso Maraire, a tour with the late Taku Mafika to Europe in 2010, Busi Ncube at HIFA in 2012, poet Comrade Fatso and Chabvondoka and was involved in Mozambican Independence Day celebrations in Chimoio in 2013.
